CLASSIC CAR CORROSION CONTROL

PRESERVATION AND RESTORATION

One of the biggest enemies of classic cars is rust, and we have sadly lost countless examples over the years as they simply corroded away.

We are known for our careful preservation and detailed restoration work.

We do not merely inject wax into the cavities.

Most cars are mass produced items built to a price point. As a result rust protection is minimal or non existant Add to this designs riddled with water traps, and we see many cars rusting from the inside out as well as the outside in.

Delamination is another common issue with classic vehicles. Factory applied rubberised coatings loose adhesion and become less elastic with age. The steel below then starts to corrode, often hidden below the failed rubberised coating. High impact areas are more susceptible to fail.

The first stage is an appraisal. Here we get an idea of the condition of the vehicle, however its only when we dig deeper, removing coatings carpets and trims that we discover what the actual structure is like beneath.

Rust is carefully cut out before welding in new metal.

We work with passionate classic car owners, making sure the vehicles are in sound condition both mechanically and structurally.

High pressure injection of hot Dinitrol wax stops vehicles corroding from the inside out.

A car that appears, to the untrained  eye, entirely immaculate may already be rotting quietly behind a window seal, beneath sound-deadening, or under the very seam sealer applied at the factory. By the time rust announces itself on the surface, that area will need to be cut out and replaced.

Sill replacement on a 115 Series Alfa Romeo Spider. The later versions had bonded on plastic sill covers which accelerated rust at an alarming rate.

Factory underseal becomes brittle with age, cracking and allowing moisture ingress resulting in the steel corroding underneath.

If left to corrode it can take hold in spectacular fashion compromising the structural integrity of the vehicle.

We have become well known in the classic Mercedes community and know the various chassis structures very well.

rust

Prevention is better than a cure.

Seemingly immaculate classic cars if checked over carefully can be found corroding in hidden areas including behind trims / window seals, under sound deadening and even under factory applied seamsealer and underseal.

Poorly restored vehicles are very common, with customers bringing in their latest acquisition for an appraisal, wanting to address some slight blistering under the gleaming paintwork. In this case zero prep and filler directly over rusty panels.

Another Ferrari 400 in with us for mechanical and bodyworks.

rust

Poor design leads to hidden water traps corroding the chassis from inside out often in hard to reach and unprotected areas.

Maintaining your classic car is an important part of ownership for longevity and preventing costly repairs in the future.

Regular checks must be made including inside the chassis and in hidden areas to make sure corrosion is not starting.

Sills often rust from tthe inside out.

You could keep your classic in a dehumidified bubble and never expose it to moisture - but whats the fun in that?

We believe classic cars should be driven and enjoyed as much as possible.

With our help you can have the peace of mind that the car is protected and ready for your next adventure!

We are classic car enthusiasts and have restored hundreds of classic cars over the last 25 years.

It is only once inspected by a trained eye that corrosion and previous poor repairs can be revealed perhaps made at a time when the value of the vehicle was significantly less than in todays market or were simply not carried out to an acceptable standard.

Whatever the case we are here to help, whether for rust repairs, corrosion prevention with wax injection or protecting the floor and and chassis with special antirust coatings.

We believe classics should be driven and enjoyed as they were designed to be - and with our help they can!
